Bike Ride 06/19/11

We headed out for our first long ride.  We were complete with our bike route trackers and our filled water bottles.  We headed up a different way than usual.  We tried our hand at some off road action.  I think doing well on this part led us to be a bit more confident on our bikes in general.

We headed down our known path to explore finally where it ended.  We past our place we knew and headed our further, eventually we hit the dead end at Cypresswood.  We turned around to head back.  When we hit Jones again and the place to make the circle to get back on the road the simple words flew out of my mouth.  “Let’s go straight”.  And we were off on our off road adventure.

We climbed up and down till we disturbed the woodland creatures.  Five deer sped off into the forest; us interrupting their evening drink.  One seemed to linger a little trying to decide if we were going to just continue on our way and if it was worth the effort to run.  As my husband pulled out his phone to take a picture the last one decided to head in our opposite direction, following the others.

As we continued on we saw many beautiful areas tucked like hidden gems between the populace.  Not knowing where we were going and the impending dark gave the ride a little bit of excitement.  We followed our ears like good little survivalists, and ended up coming out just off of 249 & Cypresswood.  Yet before we discovered exactly where we were our little heads popped up right at an on ramp to the freeway.  How weird is it to find yourself in relation to the freeway without your car.

The journey back after we located ourselves was trying. I think because now we knew where we were, but we also knew that we were still far from home. Some of walking beside the bike was necessary. But in the end we made it home safe, and had a wonderful time.
